Roger Sanderson (#B200) of Hoopa, California won his third straight Boatnik hydroplane race Monday (Today) as he won all 4-legs to capture his 7th career ‘Boatnik’ Tom Rice Memorial Cup race.
Sanderson notched his 50th career win holding off Jesse Reinhart (#17) of Grants Pass to win the 60th Annual Whitewater Race presented by the Grants Pass Active Club.
It’s the second-year in a row that Sanderson and Reinhart finished 1-2 in the Boatnik. Justin Hood (#A1) and younger brother Jared (#4DQ) finished third and fourth place, respectively. Jude Hostler of Hoopa, Ca. (#50) rounded out the Podium with a 5th place finish.
Cameron Kirkland (#68) of Grants Pass was running in the top-3 when he blew over in Brushy Chutes and did not finish the race. And, 10-time winner Jeff Lewis racing his 50th Boatnik finished but was a leg down after stalling out on the first turn.
A near record of 21 boats made the starting line with a record purse of $8,500, and the winner pocketing $2,000 for the win, and runner-up earning $1,500.
Sanderson is the third-winningest racer in Cal-Ore and Boatnik history and needs 1 more Boatnik win to tie the late Don Burnison (#0) for 2nd All-Time wins.
The Cal-Ore River Racers-My Circle-K/Colvin Oil series moves to Willow Creek, California for the third race of the summer June 9-10, and in Hoopa, Ca. on Father’s Day weekend, before returning to the Rogue River on July 1st for the ‘Rogue River Rooster Crow’ race.
